About me

Pattern Recognition at Scale

I’ve spent thirty years at the intersection of technology, business, and the human dynamics that determine whether organizations actually execute on their potential.

That path started in code and ran through every layer of how companies work – engineering, systems architecture, IT, security, operations, product, and leadership. Along the way: scaling a SaaS email platform from 125,000 to over a million mailboxes before its acquisition by Rackspace, building and leading global IT and security organizations through 500% growth, and steering executive teams through the kind of complexity that doesn’t show up in org charts.

What I kept finding, across every company and every role, was the same pattern. The technology was rarely the real problem. The misalignment was. Decisions getting made twice. Functions pulling in different directions. Leaders who were brilliant individually and ineffective collectively. Problems that everyone could see and nobody would say out loud.

That’s what I do now. I work with founders and technical leaders of tech-forward companies navigating the jump from traction to real scale – as a trusted advisor, and when the situation calls for it, as a fractional executive who can step into the room and lead directly. The judgment comes from having lived inside these organizations, not just observing them.

I specialize in Herding Wolves – helping strong-willed, high-talent teams run in the same direction by restoring alignment, repairing friction, and naming what nobody inside will say out loud.

Because herding cats is too easy.

What I Bring

The capabilities I’ve built over the course of my career operating inside complex organizations.

Pattern Recognition

Thirty years of cross-functional leadership – building the instinct to see what’s actually broken, the systems which no longer work at scale.

Negotiations, Conflict

Formally trained in negotiation dynamics. Brings structure to situations most leaders navigate by instinct alone.

Diagnostic Candor

The willingness to name what others in the room see but won’t say. Not a comfortable skill. An essential one.

Technical Fluency

Deep roots in systems architecture, IT, and security. Fluent in the language of every function at the table.

How I Think

What you can expect when working with me.

Trust First

Alignment can’t happen without psychological safety. I build it quickly and protect it fiercely.

Candor with Care

Direct enough to say the hard thing. Careful enough to say it in a way people can actually hear.

Systems, Not Symptoms

Every surface problem has a structural cause. Finding it is the work. Fixing it is the goal.

Judgment Over Process

Not a framework factory. The value is the diagnosis and the clarity that follows.

Beyond the Work

Be human first… more than just a philosophy.

Collaboration

Collaboration isn’t just a buzzword. It’s how the best outcomes are actually achieved.

Mentorship

Educator, speaker, and active mentor to those navigating the transition into senior leadership.

Community

Scout leader for twelve years; believes the next generation of leaders is worth the investment.

Diversity

Genuine champion for the ideas of others – across industries, cultures, and lifestyles.

Testimonials

Most of my career was spent inside organizations, tackling growth, complexity, and friction. Meet some of the other leaders who saw how I worked up close:
